Seagate has launched a major push to increase the uptake of its Full Disk Encryption (FDE) laptop and PC drives, in partnership with Dell. It will have higher capacities and competitive prices. This month, buyers of a wide range of Dell laptops will be offered an upgrade to Seagate’s latest Momentus FDE drives, with capacities between 160GB and 320GB at platter speeds of 5400rpm and 7200rpm, depending on model. Drives of 500GB will be available by year end. Dell indicated that laptops with the standard 5,400rpm 120GB drive added would increase the price by US$139 approximately.

Alienware, the leader in PC gaming, has announced the latest addition to its line of gaming laptops. The new M17 model has taken a sharp turn fro its predecessor M17x. Starting at $ 1399 only, the new product from Alienware is very reasonably priced. But, opting for features other than the basic configuration like the multi-GPU CrossfireX and Intel Quad Core 2 Extreme CPUs can make it a little pricier.
After a one month delay due to issues related to integrated graphics and wireless licensing, it seems that Intel’s Centrino 2 laptop platform will finally launch on July 14. Centrino will offer the latest Core 2 Duo notebook processors, enhanced graphics and wireless technology. A number of PC vendors, including Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Toshiba and Fujitsu, are gearing up with a series of new notebooks to coincide with the release of Centrino 2, formerly code-named Montevina.
Eagle Business Strategies has announced that its client Computer Intelligence Inc. has launched its Intelligels(R) line of wrist rests for laptop computers. These patent-pending wrist rests were designed to differentiate themselves from the dozens of different wrist rests sold for desktop computers and the few sold for laptops. The goal of this unique design is to provide comfort and relieve the pain and discomfort to the palms and wrists while typing on a hot and hard laptop case. Intelligels offers two versions of the wrist rest, SoftGEL and Lycra nylon SoftFOAM, both of which are simple in appearance and design.
Hewlett Packard has listed a budget business laptop called the HP 550 on its product site. The HP 550 laptop has inexpensive Core 2 Duos and Celerons as its processors, apart from an Intel GMA X3100 graphics, an option between a combo optical drive or DVD burner, a 15.4-inch diagonal WXGA Brightview display and a maximum of 4GB of RAM and 250GB of hard drive storage. Apart from these components, the HP 550 also features an 802.11 Wi-Fi, an Ethernet LAN and a built-in 56K modem.
Hewlett-Packard, a leading global IT company has recently announced the launch of its two, 12-inch EliteBooks for business travelers. The company launched its pint-sized business laptops - the EliteBook 2530p and the convertible tablet EliteBook 2730p and also a refreshed HP Compaq 2710p at Intel’s Developers Forum (IDF) 2008. Nowadays, frequent business travelers are also known as elitists, hence the name Elitebook is derived. Despite a miniature size frame and weighing at roughly 3.2 pounds, the model 2530p features anodized aluminum—the new business looks for the EliteBooks. HP also incorporated a 12-inch LED widescreen for its 2530p, new Centrino 2 processors, built-in DVD burner, which can be removed only to be replaced by a second 1.8-inch hard drive. As the primary drive is concerned, the 2530p has enough room for either1.8 inch or a 2.5-inch hard drive.
